Zachary Poucher Climbs The Ranks In Division 1 Beat Saber

ONU’s Division 1 Beat Saber team competed in their first 16-player double elimination tournament on Saturday to kick off their Season 3 matches. Zachary Poucher, entering the competition after placing 11th in the qualifiers, has risen to the 8th seed after eliminating 2 competitors (6th and 16th seed players) over the weekend in a series of Best of 3 matches.
Several competitors in the CVRE League for Beat Saber rank high on the global leaderboard, according to scoresaber.com. The winner of this weekend’s CVRE Division 1 match, who goes by the username Fern, is ranked 16th on that leaderboard.
Zach shared:
“Being only a couple of weeks into the season for Beat Saber, it’s crazy that in the short time we’ve had, we have a team now from nothing. It’s been a great experience so far and I don’t expect it to die down anytime soon. I’ve met people that I wouldn’t have met elsewhere through the team. Going into the first tournament I had some nerves building up as my first matchup was against last season’s winner. I quickly forgot about my nerves when I got into the first match and just started playing. It is a fun game that I think everyone should try as there are songs for everyone to enjoy. And who doesn’t like music? Beating the winner of last season was amazing. I didn’t think I could best him but I gave it my all and I ended up nudging him out in a couple of songs which secured my victory.”
CVRE League’s Division 1 consists of the top 16 scoring players on 3 songs in the qualifier week, and while Division 2 plays as a team with a minimum of 3 players per team, Division 1 is based on the individual competitors performing solo as representatives from their university. This season, Olivet has 5 players on Division 2; Ryan Hemsteger, Brandon Smith, Micaela Leavitt, Austin Awalt, and Jared Francouer, and 2 players in Division 1; Zachary Poucher and Eric Serpe. Teams are led by Coach Deanna Mize and streamed by Director Mike Szostek.
